Copic Markers with a Stencil?

Yep, and the results are awesome! I’ll show you how. But first, welcome to the Heffy Doodle New Release Inspiration Blog Hop! We are so excited to share lots of amazing cards from the design team, using the new release. For today’s special Blog Hop, you can win a £50 voucher to the Heffy Doodle store! Details are below.

To celebrate the new release, I created a background panel for my trio of mini-slimline cards with the Balloon Room Stencil. I wanted to try Alberto Gava’s Copic coloring technique, but instead of using balloon stamps, I used a stencil, shifting it to cover a 5½” x 8½” panel. You know how I love no-line coloring lately, so I blended on a soft layer of ink that I could color over. (If you want a black outline, you can simply trace the balloons with a Copic Multiliner pen instead.) Following along with Alberto’s video, I Copic colored a rainbow of balloons. To really make them pop, don’t forget the gel pen highlights! I added white dots and crosses, and gold strings. I just love how this background turned out, don’t you?

Pulling the cards together was a snap from there. I trimmed the background into three panels, each measuring 2½” x 5½” and layered them onto slightly larger holographic panels. Before popping them up onto colorful mini-slimline card bases, I stamped the word BIRTHDAY onto the panels in coordinating ink. For each card, I stacked up the die cut sentiment WISHES, cut three times from colored cardstock, and once from holographic paper to layer under the stamped word. A holographic die cut balloon is popped up with double thick foam tape for more dimension. Notice the highlight? It matches! And how about the silver string? I was inspired by Ilda Dias to tie on silver thread; it’s perfect! A few colorful sequins add sparkle.

Here’s a look at the finished cards…
