Spell It Birthday Cards

It’s day 2 of the inspiration hop for The Rabbit Hole Designs‘ new release and I’ve got a pair of fun cards featuring the new Spell It stencil and Sassy Birthday Sentiments 1 stamp set (yes, there are two)! Even though both cards are made with the same supplies, they are totally different.

First, the sweet card 🙂 I stenciled the word YAY onto a white panel with the Spell It stencil and several shades of pink Distress Oxide inks (Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberry coordinated perfectly with my pattern paper background). I used Pixie Spray on the back of my stencil and applied the ink with soft makeup brushes for crisp, clean results. I embossed a smaller sentiment from the Sassy Birthday Sentiments 1 stamp set onto a fishtail cut banner. I popped the stenciled panel onto the pattern paper card base with foam tape, and popped the banner up with more foam tape. A few felt hearts, a wooden heart, and some sequins finished the card. No glitter, but still very girly.

The second card is a little sassy and I love it! This card was very simple to make too. I was inspired by the sentiment to create a milk carton shaped card. I cut a white panel to 4″ x 5 ½” and scored lines ½” and 2″ from the top. First, I stenciled the word MILK below the second line with Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide inks. Then I stamped the sentiment below in the same colors. To make the score lines more visible, I creased them (valley fold at the top, mountain fold for the second line) then flattened the panel back out. After covering the back of the bottom portion of the panel with foam tape I popped it onto a card base. Gluing the top flap flat to the card base gave me a gradual incline that mimics a milk carton. Rounding the top corners with a punch helped sell the idea a little more. If I were to make this card again,  moving the second score line up (1 7/8″ from top) and use a smaller corner punch would help. Tiny details, but they make it look a little more proportionate.

I’ve been having fun making birthday cards with the Spell It stencil, but you can use it to spell out anything you like. What would you use it for? If you’d like to see how the rest of the team used it, hop along with us! Be sure to comment as you go to be entered to win. (Details and a discount code below.)
