Clean and Simple Cards with i-crafter

The new release from i-crafter is available today, and I’m sharing a trio of clean and simple cards featuring the Purrfect Birthday, HedgeHugs, and Elephant Family and Phrases stamp sets! Each set features several sentiment options, some punny, some mix-and-matchable. You can use the images to build scenes, but I thought I’d share a quick and easy template that you can use with all three of these sets. 

For each card, I stamped the images and Copic colored them with only a few shades, to create some highlights and shadows. The trick to making images not need a whole scene is to add a shadow underneath, to ground them. I used a pair of light grey markers to add the shadows on each of these cards. The Purrfect Birthday and HedgeHugs cards have portrait orientations, so I stamped the images higher up and added sentiments under, for additional grounding. Leaving more negative space below, rather than centering them, is more pleasing to the eye. 

You can apply the same template to a landscape card too. For the third card, I stamped the elephants and a banner from Elephant Family and Phrases to create a partial scene. Again, some light grey shadows help ground them. Notice that the last elephant on the right is half off the panel. Don’t be afraid to stamp off the edges; it helps move your eye all the way across the card. And for landscape cards like this, I like to stamp the images closer to the bottom of the panel, leaving more negative space above. 

To finish each of the cards, I popped my panels up with fun foam onto coordinating woodgrain card bases. A few white gems add sparkle without distracting you from the focal images. For clean and simple cards, make sure you are using nice, bright, heavyweight paper. With this much negative space, you will notice the quality of the paper.
