Country Pumpkin – Pearblossom Press

It’s day 2 of the new release celebration for The Rabbit Hole Designs and today, we’re showing you lots of fun ways to use the sweet Country Witch stamp set. I thought it would be neat to create a pumpkin shaped card as a background for her, and since I don’t have a large pumpkin die, I made my own.

To start, I stamped and Copic colored the witch and spider, then cut them out with my ScanNCut. (There are coordinating dies, but I don’t have them yet.) Next, I pulled out my stitched Oval, Circle, and Strips of Ease dies. I cut out three ovals from orange cardstock (two dark, one light), and a 4″ circle card base. From white cardstock, I cut out a narrow strip for the stem, and a wider one for my sentiment. I also cut out three green leaves.

Next, I added some shading to all of the pumpkin pieces, using Distress Oxide inks, and my soft Cotton Tail Blending Brushes.

In order to make sure my card would fit into a standard A2 sized envelope, I used a 4¼” x 5½” panel as a guide while assembling the pumpkin. I made sure that as I glued the ovals and leaves to the circular card base, they didn’t extend beyond the panel.

I glued the two darker ovals down first, then I tucked in the stem. Next, I glued the lighter oval on top, and glued the leaves in place.

Once the pumpkin was assembled, it was ready to decorate. For the sentiment banner, I decided to color it black and emboss it with white powder. I glued it, along with the spider, down flat. Foam tape pops the witch up. Then I glued on matte black sequins and a jute bow. Locking tweezers helped to hold the bow in place as the glue dried. To finish the card, I drew a black line for the spider to dangle from, and added some white marker dots to add texture to the pumpkin. (No glitter anywhere on this card. I was going for a more rustic, country feel.)

I’d love to know what you think. As I’m looking at the pictures, I wish I had tucked in a little green vine. Maybe I’ll go back and add one before I send it out. Do you ever paper piece card bases like this? There are lots of simple shapes you can mimic. Especially, for Halloween cards! Use a circle to cut a full (or partial) moon, a few rectangles and a triangle can make a haunted house, a large triangle can be turned into a piece of candy corn. I could go on forever. cute!! i think sometimes that the best skill to have as a cardmaker is the ability to see the shapes in another shape, so you can break it down and recreate it. I think that’s cool.
