Birthday Cards for Twins

So here’s the scoop, The Rabbit Hole Designs has a new release, and I’m in love. In addition to the gorgeous Botanical Hippo and Botanical Koala, illustrated by my super talented niece, Summer, there are new bunnies from Tatsiana too!

Today, I’m sharing a pair of birthday cards with bunnies for friends that are identical twins. Just like my friends, these cards look alike, but there are subtle differences.

Let’s start with the backgrounds. I used the new Scopped stencil trio to create not only an inked pattern, but raised texture too. First, I used the solid stencil layer to dry emboss my panel, using a silicone pad and my die cutting machine. (Make sure your cardstock is sandwiched between your stencil and squishy pad for best results.) You can see below how that creates a raised pattern. Next, I lined up the cone stencil layer and blended two shades of light brown ink through. Notice the darker ink at the top of the cones? It’s the shadow for the ice cream scoops. After lining up the scoop stencil layer, I blended on four “flavors” of ink. This time, I added the shadow to the bottoms. For the vanilla, strawberry, and pistachio ice cream, I used a single ink, with a heavier hand at the bottom. To add the shadow to the chocolate scoops, I blended a dark red ink at the bottom. The three stencil layers are really easy to line up, and offer lots of options. You can omit the solid layer, if you don’t want to dry emboss. Or you, can line it up and apply glitter gel on top of your cones.

I love the way this turned out. And since I was making mini-slimline cards, I was able to get both backgrounds from the 6″ x 6″ panel. To pull these cards together, I trimmed the backgrounds to 2 7/8″ x 5 7/8″ and popped them up on 3 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ kraft card bases with thin foam tape. The focal points are Copic no-line colored ice cream bunnies from the new Tastes Like Summer stamp set. I stamped them with Warm Glow ink, and even though I used the same colors, I switched the strawberry and vanilla bunnies for each card. White gel pen highlights make them look shiny. After fussy cutting the images with my ScanNCut, I popped them up onto scalloped vellum circles with double thick foam tape. The sentiment was embossed with white powder, and a few scattered gold gems add sparkle.

These sweet mini-slimlines fit into #7 coin envelopes. Aren’t they fun? I hope my twin friends will love them.
