As the challenge coordinator for Heffy Doodle, I get to come up with the theme, and create an inspirational card to kick off each month’s challenge. I’m not going to lie, it’s an awesome job. So can you guess what time it is? It’s time for the new challenge! This month, we’re looking for Bright and Happy cards. Show us what that means to you, using Heffy Doodle products (mostly) and enter for your chance to win a £35 gift card! (Woohoo!) The challenge starts now in the Heffy Doodlers Facebook Group, and runs through August 2nd.
To help kick the challenge off, I made a bright, cheerful slimline card. There are so many cute images in the new Hot Diggity Dog stamp set, and the long layout allowed enough room to fit quite a few of them onto my card. Are you a fan of slimline cards?
Creating this card was very easy. I stamped out images from Hot Diggity Dog and cut them out with the coordinating dies, along with the parts from the Build A Cabin die set. Then, I colored them all with Copic markers.
To create the background, I ink blended the sky with Speckled Egg, and the ground with several shades of green ink, splattering concentrated color in the grassy area. Using Copic markers again, I drew in a line of hedges in between. (This was mostly to hide some of the green ink that I accidentally blended above the horizon. I’m glad I made that mistake, because the hedges add more interest to the scene.) Drawing the hedges is as simple as outlining the top and bottom edges with a green marker, then filling in the space with swirls of different colors. The key is not to overthink it; just draw quick curls and spirals.
With the background finished, I figured out placement of the die cut pieces and added some shading underneath with a green marker, before gluing them down. I used the same marker to add a few tufts of grass here and there, then trimmed the panel and glued it to my card base. To finish the card, I stamped a sentiment from the new Close at Heart set and added a few clouds to the sky (the scene was feeling bottom heavy). I also added a few green sequins for a little sparkle.
There were so many great entries in last month’s challenge. Make sure you join the Heffy Doodlers group on Facebook and check them all out. It’s also a great place to share your projects and meet new crafty friends. Plus, I try to share Lesley’s weekly videos there too as soon as she goes live.
Now it’s your turn. Pull out your Heffy Doodle stamps, stencils, and dies and let’s see your Bright and Happy cards! To enter, go to the Heffy Doodlers Facebook Group and post a picture of your project in the July 2020 Challenge album. Enter as many cards as you like. The winner will be randomly chosen from all entries posted prior to Midnight (UT) on August 2nd, 2020. You are not limited to cards, feel free to post tags, scrapbook pages, home decor projects, etc. Just be sure the bulk of the stamps and dies used are from Heffy Doodle. Good luck my friend!
