Floral Shaker Birthday Postcard

Hello my crafty friends! I’m back with another fun floral card today, featuring the Flower Power digi-stamp from Heartcraft Paper. For a fun twist, my clear shaker pocket is actually the base for a postcard, or flat card. I had a lot of fun with this design.

To start, I opened the Flower Power digi-stamp in my image editing software and added a sentiment to the banner. Then I printed it onto lightweight watercolor paper and painted it with my Prima watercolors. I seem to be on a real watercolor kick lately; they are awfully fun to play with. Then I sprayed the entire image with shimmer mist. After the image was dry, I cut it out with my ScanNCut.

To make the base of the card, I cut a sheet protector pocket down to A2 size, then sealed three sides with my Fuse tool. I filled the pocket with coordinating sequins and some tiny holographic stars from my stash. I sealed the top side and then went around the entire perimeter a second time for a wonky double-stitched look.

I glued a red die cut oval to the back so I’d have a place to write my sentiment, then glued the floral piece on the front. I added a few coordinating sequins to the center of the flowers so the’d have a little more sparkle. To secure the sequins, I added a coat of Diamond Glaze on top of them. Once that was dry, the card was complete.

Have you made any see-through cards? I think it’s a fun, unexpected element. You could even use the shaker bits to represent part of a scene. Perhaps a mermaid on top of an ocean of blue sequins? Check out Heartcraft Paper’s selection of digi-stamps and see what ideas they spark! What other surprise elements do you add to cards? Let me know in the comments below.

I bought some clear pockets at the Stamp Expo recently, not knowing what I would do with them exactly( but I had seen a video of someone making a shaker sort of thing with it–sealing the edges with Washington so I thought I would do that). I don’t have a ride tool but I should check out wh at they can do so I will know if I should get one. Thank you!
