Hey crafty friend, I’m back with a shiny new card to share for the Heffy Doodle and Therm O Web Collaboration Blog Hop! Today, design team members from both companies are sharing inspiration, using lot of products from both companies. Be sure to hop along with us and comment for your chance to win! (See details below.) If you’ve already been hopping along, you should have come from Lynnea’s channel and the next stop is on Ellen’s blog.
My nephew recently proposed to his high school sweetheart, and I wanted to make them a special card. Isn’t it pretty?
I love stretching my supplies and using them in new ways. For my card today, I pulled out my nesting circle dies to create a pair of rings. To jazz up the smaller ring, I added a sparkly diamond on top! Let me walk you through the process…
FOIL
I’ve been wanting to try Therm O Web’s Transfer Gel Duo for foiling. I love that you don’t need to add heat to use it. (Sometimes, digging out my laminator is a pain.) Plus, you can create a little texture if you apply the gel liberally. I spread a thin layer onto a white cardstock panel as well as a small scrap for the diamond. Then, I set them aside to dry. After about an hour, I applied Teal Foil to the panel, and Opal Foil to the small scrap (pretty sides up), and ran them through my die cutting machine for pressure. The foils transferred beautifully!
DIE CUT
I die cut a Scalloped Slimline rectangle from the teal panel. Then, from the center of the panel, I die cut two rings with a pair of nesting Stitched Circle dies and a Circle Frame. I also cut out the word CONGRATULATIONS. From white cardstock, I cut out the rings and word again several times, nesting one set back into the teal panel so it would be smooth and even when covered with the white Stitched Rectangle panel on top.
STAMP & INK
To create the diamond, I stamped and heat embossed a small gem from the Geology Rocks stamp set onto the opal scrap, using a sparkly light teal embossing powder. With the coordinating die, I cut the diamond out, along with several extras. To add interest to the stitched white panel, I blended soft teal ink on the left side. Then, I splattered more ink on top.
Here’s a look at the parts, before I put the card together…
ASSEMBLY
To pull the card together, I stacked and glued the stitched ring layers together. Then, I stacked the diamond ring layers together, alternating the rings and gems for a smooth transition where they connect. After that, I glued the CONGRATULATIONS words together. Using thin foam tape between the layers, I adhered the scalloped panel to a white slimline card base (measuring 8½” x 3½”), and the inked rectangle on top. Then, I glued the rings and word to the card. With all of the shine from the foil, there was no need for any other embellishments. It’s clean and simple, and I know my nephew and his fiancé will love it. What do you think?
