Fun Fold – Inverted Z Fold

Hey crafty friend, I’m back with another fun fold card. This one is an Inverted Z Fold. It creates a stepped back panel that acts as a shadowbox. I know that’s a mouthful, but I promise, this card is easy to make. I’ve even got a cheat sheet you can print up and use as a guide. (Click this link for the for the free printable Inverted Z Fold Shadowbox Card.) Isn’t it a neat card?

I have a video showing you exactly how to create this card, and it’s part of a video hop, so be sure to check it out and hop along for more fun projects, all inspired by my friend Janie!

This card was inspired by my friend Janie. You can find her on YouTube at Janie The Craft Princess, or on her blog the Crafter’s Castle. Those links take you to her video, and blog post, for the Inverted Z Fold in portrait format.

To create this card in landscape format, I used the guide to mark my cut and score lines on heavyweight pattern paper (cardstock). I cut and folded it to create the card base. To decorate the card, I used the Butterfly Burst dies to cut both a solid shadow layer, and the detail layer for the butterfly cluster and the smaller single butterfly. I also cut out the bodies. After coloring the shadow layer with several colors of Karin markers, I glued the detail layer on top.

Before assembling my card, I stamped and embossed a pair of sentiments, one in the shadowbox area, and the other on the small white panel. I glued the butterfly cluster to the shadowbox area, and the white panel to the right side of the card, along with the single butterfly. A few gems, and shimmer pen accents on the wings, add sparkle.

Thanks for stopping by today. I’d love to know what you think of this card. I hope I’ve inspired you to give it a try. And I hope it doesn’t seem too complicated. I’ll be back soon with more fun cards to share.
