Fun Folds – Diaper Shaped Card

Hey crafty friends, thanks so much for stopping by today! It’s a busy day here. Not only am I sharing this fun fold diaper card, but we have a neat video hop with Whimsy Stamps on YouTube, featuring light-up cards with our EZ-Lights. And on Instagram, I’m participating in a hop to celebrate the three new inks from Ink on 3. (If you need a good white ink pad, you definitely need to try theirs!)

Let’s dive into our diaper card now. I just love fun folds! Don’t worry, there are no fancy dies to buy, and I’m giving away the template for free (you can find it here).

A few weeks ago, I shared a sneak peek over on Instagram, when I was working on the front side of this card. You can substitute double sided pattern paper, but I wanted to make my own. I stamped out images from the Eggcellent News stamp set from Heffy Doodle onto a 9″ x 12″ sheet of watercolor paper, and watercolored them with Karin Markers. This was fun to work on while I was watching TV with the family. Watercoloring on the couch might sound dangerous, but I just clipped the sheet to my Kathy Racoosin Clipboard and had a small cup of water, and a rag on the coffee table. Using markers kept me mess-free.

Once my watercolored panel was dry, it was pretty warped. No problem. The trick to flattening it out again is to mist the back side with water, and stack heavy books on top, until it dries again. It’s important to only mist the back side; you don’t want to reactivate the color on the front side. And when I say mist, I mean give it a light spray. It doesn’t take much to work.

When the panel was flat and dry, I used my template to trace and cut out the diaper shape. Just click here, the template will open in a new tab, and you can print it out. It fits in an A6 envelope. After the diaper shape was cut out, I flipped it over and blended yellow ink through the Candy Store stencil on the back. The striped pattern is easy to move and cover the whole panel with.

To pull the card together, I stamped a sentiment inside. (If you choose a bold pattern inside, you can stamp your sentiment on a rectangle and layer that inside.) For the front of the card, I stacked three layers of the die cut word BABY, for a thick, chipboard-like element. I glued it to the front, and stamped WELCOME underneath. For another 3D element, I added a diaper pin sticker from my stash (you can recreate these with craft wire and a circle punch). To add sparkle, I coated the stripes on my diaper pin and the die cut word with Stickles

I love this card. And I hope I’ve inspired you to give one a try (even if you use pattern paper instead). Is anyone else wondering if we’re going to see a baby boom in the next few months? Quarantine and chill, right? Lol, it might be a good idea to keep a few of these on hand, just in case…
