What time is it? Time for The Rabbit Hole Designs’ new release!!! So let’s hop to it! Today, I get to share not one, but two new sets with you! All of the coffee lovers out there are going to flip for the Caffeinated Rabbit and Perfectly Blended sets! (And spoiler alert: all five of the new sets are live in the shop now, so you don’t have to wait to see them all – especially you caffeinated critter fans, get over there now!) And yes, I know I’m not supposed to end every sentence with an exclamation mark, but come on, this is exciting stuff folks!
First up, I’ve got this fun birthday card that uses both the Caffeinated Rabbit and the Perfectly Blended sets. Now those of you who know me, know I have a pair of pet rabbits at home. Remington Steal Your Heart has been with us for over a year, and we just adopted Cinnabun. In the past, I’ve always colored my rabbits in shades of brown to look like Remington, but now I’ll be switching things up. Lol, I’m not sure I’ll be able to color them to look like Cinnabun, but it’ll be fun to try. For today’s card though, I wanted to use a kraft card base, so I didn’t color this guy to look like either one of them. I opted for a white rabbit that would contrast nicely and really pop off the page. (Or would it be hop off the page?) Okay, so why include the story of my pet rabbits at all then? Just so I had an excuse to include a picture of them 😉 Lol, don’t tell my kids, but I have more pictures of the rabbits on my camera roll than them right now…
This card was really easy to make. I started with a 5″ square kraft card base. (I got a set with matching envelopes at my local hobby shop for a steal so I’ll be making a whole set of cards like this.) I smooshed my Ground Espresso Distress Oxide ink (of course! What other color would I choose?) onto an acrylic block and added a little water to thin it out. Using a round #8 paint brush, I splattered the ink onto the card base. To get the “coffee ring” I inked up the bottom of a mug and spritzed it with water, then stamped it onto the card. I spun and moved the mug a little as I was stamping it down to get a more realistic look. You know what I mean, right? After all these years, I still can’t pour a cup of coffee without spilling a little down the side of my mug. That’s what my counter looks like every morning 🙂 And no, the ink didn’t stain my mug; it cleaned up very easily.
While the base was drying, I stamped and embossed my Caffeinated Rabbit onto a scrap of white cardstock. I colored him with some warm grey Copics and gave him an orange mug. I fussy cut him with my ScanNCut, because I like my thumbs and I don’t do fussy cutting by hand anymore #spoiledbutnotrotten 😉 Before I popped him in place with foam tape, I stamped and embossed my sentiment from the Perfectly Blended set onto the now dry card base. My Mini Misti is super handy for lining sentiment stamps up and being able to restamp if I need to. I use it all the time!
For my next card, I painted a watercolor background with yellow, blue, and green. When it was nearly dry, I splattered on some clean water to lift some of the color. Then I splattered on a little more paint that wasn’t as watered down. That gave me a beautiful background that you’ll see on a card in a few days 😉 I die cut the word coffee from the background and used it on this card! See? I was going somewhere with that… I also cut a few circles that were the perfect size to stamp caffeine molecules on. While my dies were out, I cut a pair of fishtail banners from some yellow cardstock, and the word coffee again from a scrap of black cardstock. I stamped and embossed the molecules from the Caffeinated Rabbit, Caffeinated Shark, and Caffeinated Fox sets onto the circles. (Does that count as a spoiler if they are all in the shop already?) I had the hardest time choosing which sentiment to use from the Perfectly Blended set; they are all fantastic! I went with coffee first, schemes later! It’s good, right? I might have to make a whole set of these cards too, using all of the sentiments.
To finish the card, I glued the biggest and smallest circles flat to a pre-made card base (another set of cards and envelopes in the bargain section of my local JoAnn’s). I glued the die cut words together, but slightly offset, then glued them to the larger banner. I popped both banners up onto the card with foam tape. Then I added the last circle on top of the smaller banner with foam tape. The part of the circle that is above the banner has a double layer of foam tape, so the whole thing is popped up a little bit higher than everything else on the card. I trimmed off any parts that hung off the edges of my card and it was done! I think it turned out great! Do you ever use pre-made card bases? I love them; they can be so handy when you want to make a quick card. I think of them as the Hamburger Helper® of the cardmaking world, but gourmet. Lol, can you tell I don’t cook much?
So since it’s release week, we’re hopping! And holy smokes you guys, the team has some good stuff!!! Go and check them all out! You know the drill, prizes, free shipping, but really, it’s all about the new sets – and they’re awesome!!! Head on over to The Rabbit Hole Designs’ shop and fill up your card before they sell out!
