Mood Boards for Coloring Inspiration

Do you ever stamp out an image and then scratch your head and wonder what colors to use? Today, I’ll show you how a mood board inspired my coloring choices for this fun Owl Right birthday card.

Owl Right The Rabbit Hole Designs

As soon as I saw this stack of owls from The Rabbit Hole Designs, I couldn’t wait to stamp them out and get to coloring. But what colors? Well, rainbow is always a fun option, but sometimes, we want something a little different, right? I decided to call on my handy friend, Pinterest, for help.

Search for mood boards, or color palettes, and you’ll get a wealth of inspiration! I decided that this pin was calling my name.

Comparing the colors in the picture to my hex chart, I pulled out Copic markers in similar shades. Then I grabbed a few more colors for highlights and shadows and got to work. After the bodies were colored, I added a little cool grey to the eyeballs and the outline of the image to create dimension. Man, I can’t tell you how much of a difference that makes!

To finish the card, I trimmed the panel down, added a sentiment strip, a strip of leftover glitter paper, and popped the whole thing up on a woodgrain cardbase. A few sequins and Diamond Glaze on their eyes add some more shine. Inside, I stamped a birthday sentiment because I always need more birthday cards.
