I didn’t get a chance to show you my husband’s Valentine’s Day card yet. It is so darn pretty, and yet, not too girly to give to a man. It’s a light-up card with a special feature; the light blinks like a heartbeat!
I finally got a chance to play with the Chibitronics Effects Stickers that I’ve had in my stash for a while. They add different blinking effects to your paper circuits, and they work perfectly with my Power Pack Kits. I will have a video later this month showing you how to run the circuit, but today, I want to share the details of the card design.
I die cut my sentiment using the new Haley Outline dies from i-crafter. This is my new favorite alphabet!!! I love that it cuts both the letter, and a narrow frame around it, so you can use them separately, or mix and match papers. There is also a coordinating stamp set, so you can add an extra layer of color that way too.
For this card, I decided to use the inner letter for the top and bottom words. I cut the word BEATS from both red glitter and white cardstock. I inlaid the red with a white frame, so the word would pop off of my ink blended background. I kept the background simple, just sprinkling on a little water to lift some of the ink and create texture. I also stamped the words PUSH HERE where the button for my light would be. A T-Square ruler helped me line the letters up neatly.
Next to the word MY, I die cut a heart from the background and layered a piece of vellum behind it to create the window for my light. The heart die has an outline frame similar to the alphabet dies, so I thought it coordinated perfectly. I cut the outline from red glitter paper and glued it on top of the vellum. Next, I ran the circuit, using a Power Pack Kit and an Effects Sticker on my red card base.
To assemble the card, I cut a frame from red glitter paper and layered it behind the background (there was a rectangle cut from the center of it, allowing me to conserve paper and keep the window clear for the light to shine through). I popped the framed background up with a double layer of foam tape and adhered it to the card base. A few heart shaped sequins scattered around the card finished it off.
I absolutely love how this card turned out, and my husband does too. I gave it to him for Valentine’s Day, but it would make a lovely anniversary card as well. What do you think? Have you got a favorite alphabet set that you use to make your own sentiments? If not, why not head on over to i-crafter and pick up the Haley set today?
