Pool Party!

It’s hot outside – time for a swim! Or to stay in the air conditioning and play with the all new Pool Party stamp set from Beth Duff Designs! (It’s part of the summer release, available on July 28th.) If you’re joining Kelly and I on the July Get Kids Crafty blog hop, you’ll know the theme this month is swimming and we are doubly excited to show you some fun water effect techniques and give you a sneak peak of this awesome set! First up is Kelly’s card. She was inspired by a recent Jennifer McGuire video, where she showed how to make an inner shadow box card. I helped Kelly engineer all the paper folds (we used a pre-made foiled unicorn card base and a quarter sheet of white cardstock). Kelly die cut an oval from the white cardstock for the inside of the card. She used Distress Oxides to ink blend the water and outside of the pool, then used strong Skor-tape to assemble the inside. To decorate the card, she die cut another oval out of rainbow striped cardstock and a larger one from yellow cardstock. She used rose gold embossing powder for all of her stamping. She stamped “pool,” the flip flops, and the inner sentiment on a scrap of white cardstock. She colored and fussy cut them, turning the inner sentiment into a diving board shape. She mounted everything with foam tape to add extra dimension. Adorable, right?! Take a look at how the pool pops up when you open the card…

Now for my cards. To start, I stamped my girls, floaties, and beach balls on white stock, then fussy cut them with my Scan ‘N Cut. I added Glossy Accents and Wink of Stella to glitz them up and set them aside to dry. I decided I’d use them to decorate pool shaped shaker cards. I embossed “pool party” in white on quarter sheets of watercolor paper. Then I painted the water with a combination of blue, teal, and green Twinkling H2Os and colored in “pool” with real brush markers. I die cut the windows from rainbow striped cardstock and backed them with acetate and foam tape. I added my shaker bits and closed up the card front, then adhered the shaker to a white card base. Foam tape pops my fussy cut images up on top of the card. I couldn’t decide if I wanted the beach ball and floatie inside the pool, or not, so I made a card each way. Which one do you like best?
