Seriously, Thanks!

I have a friend who has been instrumental lately and I really wanted to thank her for all of her help. I’d have gone batty without her! To know Becks, is to know she is a red-headed cross between Lilian Munster and Morticia Addams; cool, calm, collected, and slightly morbid 😉 So when I decided to make her this card, I knew right away that I’d use the Spooky Family set from Kindred Stamps. I only had a short amount of time available, so I used a few tricks to go faster.

For my first trick, I started with a black embossed pre-fab card base from Ms Sparkle (available at JoAnn Fabric). They come in variety packs and are often quite beautiful bases to build cards onto. I call this the “Hamburger Helper Technique.”

For my next trick, I decided to use a large sentiment from Concord & 9th; it takes up tons of real estate on the card and doesn’t require a lot of embellishing. I embossed it onto white cardstock and blended several colors of Distress Oxide inks on top – Aged Mahogany, Candied Apple, and Tattered Rose. Nice blend, right? I cut the bottom into a fishtail, smudged on some black Distress ink around the edges, buffed off the oxide ink on top of the embossing, and then flicked on water droplets to give the panel texture. Sounds like a lot of work but, it only took a few minutes.

The most time consuming part of this card was coloring and fussy cutting my images. Well, not the bat, it’s solid 😉 I colored the other image to look like my friend. Wink of Stella highlights dress up the eyes and the bat. I popped the sentiment and cut out images onto the card with layers of foam tape and I was done! Fast and fabulous!!! You could easily change the sentiment to turn this into a quick Halloween or birthday card. Here’s another look, showing off more of the embossing…
