The Right Shoes

The right shoes make all the difference, don’t you think? And this new pair from The Rabbit Hole Designs has me yearning for sweater weather and a hot PSL. Combined with an inspirational sentiment, they make a unique and grown up Halloween card. Let’s take a look…

To recreate this card, start by stamping the image from The Right Shoes in Warm Glow ink, then color it with Copic markers. You can see the colors I used below. Don’t forget to add highlights with gold and white gel pens, and use a fine point Copic Multiliner for the string the shoes hang from.

There is a coordinating die for this set, but it doesn’t cut out the string area, so I traced the image with a pencil to create an outline for my ScanNCut. I’ve found that it’s easier for the SNC to recognize that pencil line, rather than trying to create its own outline with no-line coloring. (It’s also a handy trick if you are going to fussy cut by hand, and struggle with adding an even border.) To avoid crunching up your cutout, pop it back into the negative space before erasing the pencil line. That keeps your eraser from catching small pieces and bending them.

Alternatively, you can use the coordinating die and tape a string to the back to hang them.

Next, we need a background. Blend grey ink onto a grey panel through the new Cat Eye stencil. Then, trim it down to 2 7/8″ x 5 7/8″ and stamp your sentiment at the bottom with black ink. Pop it up on a 3 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ white card base with thin foam tape.

To finish the card, poke a mini brad through the image near the top of the string, and open it up. If part of a prong is showing, you can trim it with your die snips. Use more foam tape to adhere the shoes to the background. Be sure to use a coordinating marker to color in the area between the string and foliage to match your background. I try to maintain an inner white border when I do this.

What do you think? Got a few gal pals who would love to receive a card with The Right Shoes in October?

Mini-slimline cards fit into #7 coin envelopes, and mail with a single stamp (as long as your card weighs less than an ounce and is under 1/4″ thick).

Did you see my Halloween wreath card on Monday? It also features stamps from The Rabbit Hole Designs new release!
