Unicorn Crush

Woohoo! It’s day one of The Rabbit Hole Designs’ new release and we’re celebrating with an inspiration hop! I’m so excited to share the new Sassy set with you! If the unicorns in this set look familiar to you, it’s because they are similar to ones originally release by Duff Designs. This set is a collaboration between Duff Designs and The Rabbit Hole Designs and I’m totally crushing on it!!! Check out the first two cards I made with these cute unicorns…

The first card I made has a Sassy unicorn, colored with Copic markers and an Aqua Shimmer pen, then fussy cut with my ScanNCut. I popped her up onto a wonky stitched vellum rectangle with foam tape. I added an embossed sentiment, cut with a fishtail banner, and popped it in place under the unicorn.

For the background, I stenciled on a rainbow of Distress Oxide inks through the new Candy Twist Stencil, using the smallest makeup brush in my set. To make the process easier, I sprayed my stencil with Pixie Spray to stick it to the cardstock. Then, I created a mask from Purple Tape that only exposed one segment of a candy swirl. I moved the mask around and brushed on one color at a time. It actually didn’t take too long. Once the background was finished, I trimmed it down to 4″ x 5¼” and glued it to an A2 card base. Then I glued the vellum rectangle on top, only applying glue behind the unicorn and banner. To finish the card, I glued on sequins and candy bits from a Sweet Tooth Shaker Pack and applied Diamond Glaze over the top  of them.

For my second card, I was inspired by a unicorn space card Beth Duff made last year. I wanted to use the starred unicorn as a constellation on a night sky background. I opted for a simple watercolor galaxy, using only two blues and white acrylic paint splatter. I embossed the unicorn over the galaxy background with white powder, then stamped the sentiment at the bottom with blue ink and embossed it with clear powder. I trimmed the panel down to 4″ x 5¼” and mounted it onto an A2 card base, with a layer of navy fun foam. I love the little peek of blue from the sides; it almost looks like an eclipse card. To finish the card, I added a few blue sequins and covered them with Diamond Glaze. I also glued on a few tiny silver star sequins to add to the night sky feeling.

What do you think of my Sassy unicorn cards? I had a ton of fun making them and I’ve got a bunch of ideas for more cards.
