When you were in school, did you carry Peechees, or did you go for the bold and bright Lisa Frank folders? As a kid, I remember being in love with all of her wild rainbow patterns and fun prints. When I saw the new Animal Prints die set from i-crafter, I knew I wanted to recreate a Lisa Frank style background with them, but with a softer twist.
Creating the background was quick and easy. I started by ink blending a soft rainbow onto a large scrap of white cardstock. (Your blending doesn’t need to be smooth or perfect; you will be covering up a lot of it.) To add sparkle, I spritzed the panel with shimmer mist. While the panel was drying, I trimmed a grey panel to the same size, and die cut it with each of the dies in the Animal Prints set, shifting to cover the whole panel. (I found it easier to cut the grey panel in half to help with placement as I ran it through my die cutting machine.) Next, I glued the grey pieces on top of the rainbow panel, then trimmed it down to fit a pair of mini-slimline cards. (This left me with two extra strips that I can use on other projects later.)

Pulling the cards together was simple. I glued the rainbow panels onto slightly larger holographic panels, then onto white cardstock. I popped those up onto light grey mini-slimline card bases with thin foam tape. The backgrounds were so lovely, they didn’t need much else. Using sentiments from the Stitched Rainbow set, I die cut each word three times from white cardstock, and one more time from holographic stock. I stacked them up nice and thick, offsetting the holographic layer on the bottom, to act as a drop shadow. A few iridescent stars and round gems finish the cards.

I can’t tell you how happy these cards make me; I feel just as giddy as I did when I was a kid, but the softer palette somehow seems more grown up. What do you think? I hope I’ve inspired you to give this technique a try! Tag me on Instagram if you do, so I can cheer you on.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I’ll be back tomorrow with another fun card to share. And be sure to check back in on Saturday for some really awesome new light-up cards; see you then!
